Cleaning your Heat Pump Filters

Some folks never think to clean these.  You may have noticed that when the pump kicks on, it smells funky.  Well, dirty filters will also effect the performance of your heat pump.  Below, are step by step photos of how to clean these.  Check out the before and after picture of the dirty filter.  Yucko!

  1. Obvious for most, but first shut the unit off.
  2. Grab the notches on either side of the front cover, and put out and upward.

  3. Pull the kick stand (orange on most models) up and hold the cover up.
  4. Grab the handle on the filter, and pull up, and then out.
  5. Repeat with the second filter.

  8. Wash filters with warm water, and dish soap.  Wipe dry with a paper towel.  Be gentle.
  9. Now, reverse those instructions, and put the filters back in.  Place the top of the filter and push up and inward.  Repeat with the other filter.

  10. Admire your handy-work.
You can also buy scented filter sheets to boost that clean filter smell as well.  Just ask about them...
